Pregnancy At Ageless Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, Pregnancy is a big focal point. I work locally with nurses, doctors, midwives, doulas, and other care givers to insure that you and your baby are getting the ultimate care you deserve during this special time. For a healthy pregnancy, treatment is often recommended once a month, with weekly treatments in the last month. Regular balancing treatments throughout your pregnancy can enhance your health as well as your baby's health, potentially preventing complications and positively influencing the development of your baby. Acupuncture is greatly effective in aiding relief in these conditions during pregnancy: - morning sickness
- heartburn
- emotional swings
- sciatica
- back pain
- edema
- constipation
- excessive lactation
- insufficient lactation
- fatigue
- irritability
- insomnia
- breech babies
- natural inductions to start contractions and help ripen cervix
- ease of labor pains
- hemorrhaging
- after birth trauma
- c-section uncomfortability and healing
- mastitis
- post natal care for mama and baby
- psychological problems
Breech babies and other issues. Acupuncture can also help with more serious issues during pregnancy. Specific points and techniques are very useful for turning "breech babies". Treatment involves moxibustion, or applying heat from the burning of the herb mugwort to a point just outside the nail of the little toe. The treatment causes no adverse side effects. The optimal time to do this is 34-36 weeks, but it has been known to turn as late as 38 weeks. If your due date has passed, acpuncture can also be used to induce labor through gentler means than traditional Western labor inducing treatments and medications. Acupuncture and acupressure can even be used to help control pain, calm the mind, and reduce stress during delivery. After baby has arrived It's important to recover properly after childbirth. Acupuncture can help you heal and regain your strength and vitality, rebalance your energy, boost your body's defenses, and help address concerns such as pain, fatigue, and postpartum depression. Children: Is acupuncture safe for children? Yes! In some instances children actually respond more quickly than adults. If your child has an aversion to the needles, I may massage the acupuncture points. This is called acupressure or Tui Na. I also use child friendly techniques, such as my "magic stickers", "magic hammer", and magic sword". A Japanese technique called Tsumo-Shin. I have a four and three year old that I have been treating since birth, therefore perfecting my "bedside manner" with children. I treat newborns on up. Children find relief from: - coughs
- colds
- congestion
- digestion issues
- respiratory issues
- diarrhea/constipation
- skin rashes/eczema
- earaches
- colic
- vomiting
- thrush
Children respond really well to acupuncture and herbs and therefore results are usually seen pretty quickly.Click here to see info on Pediatric Clinic

Fertility Issues A landmark study published in the medical journal Fertility and Sterility found that acupuncture dramatically improves the chances of becoming pregnant when used in conjunction with other assisted reproductive techniques. Researchers from Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York reviewed studies and concluded that acupuncture helps to: - increase blood flow to the uterus, which improves the chances of an ovum implanting on the uterine wall
- reduce anxiety, stress, and the hormones that are secreted during stressful situations that can significantly decrease fertility
- normalize hormone and endocrine systems that regulate ovulation, especially in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome
- positively affect the hypothalmic-pituitary-ovarian axis, which plays a key role in fertility
- regulate menstrual cycle
- improve the function of the ovaries to produce better quality eggs
- regulate the hormones to produce a larger number of follicles
- helps prevent uterine contractions
- lessens the side effects of the Western drugs used in IVF
- strengthens and regulates the patient's immune system
- decreases the chance of miscarriage
A widely published German study found that using acupuncture with IVF achieved a 42% clinical pregnancy rate compared to only 26% in the control group that did not receive acupuncture. When acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are used in conjunction with IVF, clinical experience suggests that pregnancy rate can be raised to at least 60%. Gynecological Conditions Another focal point of Ageless Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine is the ob/gyn patients for disorders such as: Acupuncture and Weight Loss Acupuncture takes a whole-body approach to health. The reasons why people gain weight, or find it difficult to lose weight, are numerous. I am well versed in uncovering the root causes or imbalances that have affected your weight. I will also take into consideration other factors that may have led to weight gain, including your lifestyle, and emotional and mental well-being. It is important to remember that acuuncture is not a "quick fix". By getting acupuncture and commiting to long term goals, you will experience positive changes in your overall health, including maintaining a healthy body weight. I will discuss with you exercise, nutrition, stress relief, and herbal remedies. By working together, we can help your body regain its natural balance- and start taking steps toward true health and vitality. Acupuncture for Stress Unfortunately, modern day stress is considerably higher, more frequent and more consistent than what our predecessors experienced. Over time this exces stress can actually be detrimental to our health. With the incease in physical, emotional, and mental stressors, our stress response gets "locked in", resulting in the depletion of the body's resources. Medical studies have shown that with increased and consistent stress, our white blood cells, which defend our body against viruses, decrease. The decrease results in lower immune resistance, ultimately leading to physical disease and emotional instability. With acupuncture and TCM, my job is to support and restore the integrity of the various organs affected and depleted by the stress response. Acupuncture for Depression Prolonged feelings of sadness, discouragement, and hopelessness greatly affect the quality of life. The top antidepressant drugs only address signs and symptoms of depression, and can cause side effects, including insomnia, anxiety, listlessness, fatique, body rash, tremors, facial tics, diarrhea, loss of appetite and sexual dysfunction. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine not only help alleviate the signs and symptoms accompanying depression, but they also address the root causes and underlying imbalances that have contributed to the problem, safely and naturally. By treating the body as a whole and unique organism, acupuncture care can support recovery from illness and disease.
